The Little Bookshop is an independent bookshop which opened in November 2018 by Cookham residents Peter Griffin and Una Loughery. They wanted something that the entire community could use, especially the children.
Positioned on the historic High Street, a higgledy piggledy blend of independent shops and business, you’ll find this bijou literary business opposite The Bel & The Dragon, a few doors down from the Stanley Spencer Gallery. As you would expect you’ll find books for all ages, cards and gifts here – and keep your eye out for the creative window displays. Enjoy all the warm and fuzzy feels, that you just don’t get when you shop online.
It’s worth picking store manager Patricia Losel’s brains for suggestions. She’s full to bursting with enthusiasm and can guide you to find the right book for you to get lost in, whether you're looking for the latest bestseller, a non-fiction factual page-turner, a children's classic or a book for a special someone.
In the short time The Little Bookshop has been open, it’s become a real hit, and many kids make a weekly pilgrimage to spend their pocket money. A sense of calm pervades The Little Bookshop, particularly when you are sitting upstairs in the cosy loft with a new book, which can be in stark contrast with our frenetic pace of life.
We are so lucky to live in such a fantastic part of the world, and Cookham is not only beautiful, it has a real sense of community. Una and Peter have been really impressed by the amount of support they have been given by other business owners and the local people; there is hardly a day that goes past without well wishers dropping by to say how glad they are that a bookshop has opened in the village.
