Michelle
My favourite type of reading is to learn something new - through an eclectic selection of non fiction on my bookcases (especially environmental and social issues), to a nose dive into a historical fiction, this sort of knowledge gathering lights me up. My second favourite are those told from a different perspective (fig tree anyone?), following a quirky character or looking at the darker or sadder parts of life. I also really love an uplifting read that highlights human connection. I tend to have a book in one hand and a cup of tea in the other. But if I'm not reading, you're likely to find me searching for bees and other interesting bugs, volunteering in the community or growing veg.
Kevie
My reading tastes range from literary fiction to fantasy and I especially enjoy books that shine a light on the off-beat, quirky, spooky or strange. A highlight of my reading year is following the Booker Prize and discovering new favourite authors. I have a particular interest in children’s literature too from picture books to YA and my background in education and illustration gives me a deep appreciation for visual storytelling, design and creativity. I enjoy bringing these interests together to help customers find books they’ll really connect with.
Emma
I came to the shop to cover a couple of shifts in an emergency 4.5 years ago and I’m still here! I love literary fiction, translated fiction and narrative non fiction. As a former teacher who spent several years specialising in literacy intervention work I also have a genuine passion for children’s literature.
Amelie
I am studying English Literature A-Level in sixth form, and I hope to continue on to university to study a degree in English & Creative Writing as I would like a future career in publishing or even writing myself. My ambitions stem from my love for reading; I particularly enjoy reading fictional books on romance, fantasy and crime.
Chantal
I read a wide range of fiction from literary to crime. I especially enjoy a well researched and well told story set in another time or place. I have also been known to enjoy the odd history, biography and, more recently, books on gardening. I usually have several books on the go at the same time.
